Privacy notice
This draft describes how Fourfold intends to handle personal information. It is not the final notice for a public service.
Information you provide
Fourfold may receive account details from your chosen sign-in service, your age eligibility response, profile settings, puzzles, tags, reactions, follows, reports, and private feedback. We also record play activity needed for ratings, history, abuse prevention, and resuming unfinished games.
How information is used
We use information to operate accounts, show the game, calculate ratings and community quality, personalize discovery choices, protect the community, answer requests, and improve Fourfold. AI-assisted improvement uses private written feedback only with separate permission.
Notifications and email
Following a creator includes a weekly email about new puzzles, with an explanation and an opt-out when you follow. People already following creators when this feature launches are included; their first digest explains why. Puzzle suggestions require a separate opt-in. You can turn off either category or all optional emails in account settings or through an email’s unsubscribe link without signing in. Requested verification and password-reset emails remain available.
We store your email preferences, your last Following visit, and a timestamp for authenticated visits and continued use. These support the new-puzzle badge and limit optional emails to one per seven days. We pause after four digests without a visit, and send at most one suggestion during an absence. Background tabs and email opens do not count as visits. Following lists and these timestamps remain private.
Resend processes recipients, email content, and delivery events to send our messages. We keep a delivery ledger to prevent duplicates and stop optional sends after hard bounces or spam complaints. Email templates contain no tracking pixels; optional sending requires provider open and click tracking to be disabled.
Knowledge topics and similarity search
Searching for a specialist topic sends the entered subject to Wikimedia. We cache public article titles, descriptions, links and Wikidata identifiers so existing topics remain available during outages. Puzzle-topic votes record whether a completed player thinks a subject is required.
When semantic search is enabled, OpenAI processes topic metadata, eligible quartet connections and clues, and similarity queries to create search vectors. Private draft and candidate results stay restricted to authorized authoring and administration tools; public puzzle search and blinded solver evaluations do not expose them. Search spending is accounted for separately, and query text is not stored in the vector cache.
Mobile devices and community moderation
The mobile app stores account session credentials and signed guest cookies in secure device storage. Recoverable drafts and board input are stored separately by account and backend environment and cleared on logout or deletion. Public play and synchronization require connectivity. The app uses no advertising SDK, payments, downloaded offline gameplay, or native push notifications.
Valid puzzle submissions and public-text updates are published without pre-publication moderation review. Reports and block lists are stored to enforce community controls across the website and mobile apps. Published content may be reviewed and removed following reports.
What is public
A public profile may show a handle, aggregate playing statistics, creator reputation, and published puzzles. Detailed play history, follower lists, report details, and private feedback are not public. Profiles for players aged 16–17 are private and pseudonymous by default, and a sign-in service's name or photo is not automatically copied to the public profile.
Sharing and retention
Fourfold may share limited information with services that provide sign-in, hosting, storage, safety, analytics, or optional AI features. We do not sell sensitive personal information. Final retention periods and a complete service-provider list will appear in the operative notice.
Your choices
Account settings will provide access to profile privacy, structure-spoiler preferences, AI-feedback consent, notifications and email, and account export. Account deletion immediately removes access, credentials, personal account details, private drafts, playtest links, follows, preferences, and private written feedback. You can remove published puzzles individually or in bulk before deletion. Published puzzles you choose to retain remain anonymously as “Deleted creator,” together with ratings and deidentified competitive records. Provider access is revoked through a durable cleanup queue; temporary encrypted revocation credentials are erased when cleanup succeeds. A minimal deletion ledger prevents identity restoration during recovery. Withdrawing AI-feedback consent stops future use of that feedback. Legal retention or security needs may delay deletion of limited records.
Age and contact
Fourfold is intended for people aged 16 or older. Final operator details, contact channels, effective date, regional privacy rights, and request instructions will be added after legal review and before public use.
